Forschung

Mein wissenschaftlichen Interessen lassen sich im wesentlichen unter dem Stichwort "Klimaeinfluss von Vulkanen" zusammenfassen.  Seit meiner Promotion in den 90iger Jahren in der ich mit mit der Bildung und Entwicklung des stratosphaerischen Aerosols nach der Pinatuboeruption beschäftigt habe, haben mich die Auswirkungen großer Vulkaneruption auf die Atmosphäre und das Klima nicht mehr losgelassen. In den ersten Jahren lag mein Schwerpunkt auf der Modellierung von mikrophysikalischen Prozessen und dem Strahlungsantrieb später sind dann die Auswirkungen von großen Vulkaneruptionen auf  verschiedene Kompartments des Erdsystems dazu gekommen. Wichtig ist mir, die verschiedenen Wege von der vulkanischen Emission zum Strahlungsantrieb und vom Strahlungsantrieb zum Klimareponse zu verstehen um Auswirkungen zukünftiger Vulkanausbruch auf das tropische Hydroklima besser abschätzen zu können  Ferner interessiere ich mich dafür in wie weit  vergangene Klimaänderungen auf historische Vulkanausbrüche zurück zu führen sind
