Klaus Fraedrich

ist Gastwissenschaftler am Max-Planck-Institut für Meteorologie, Hamburg, Deutschland.

Zu seinen früheren Tätigkeiten zählen: Professor an der Universität Hamburg, der Freien Universität Berlin, der Rheinischen Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn (alle in Deutschland); Gastprofessor an den Universitäten New South Wales (Sydney, Australien), Washington (Seattle, USA), Wisconsin (Madison, USA), Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology (China), Leiter der Langfristigen Wettervorhersage Forschung, Bureau of Meteorology Research Centre (Melbourne, Australien); und Postdoc an der Colorado State University (Fort Collins, USA), Gastforscher in Südamerika (Venezuela) und in Afrika (East African Meteorology Department in Nairobi, Kenia).

Seine Forschungsinteressen umfassen regionales Klima, nichtlineare Systemanalyse und Vorhersagbarkeit, Wetterdynamik in den Tropen und Extratropen, den Aufbau einer benutzerfreundlichen und frei zugänglichen GCM-Hierarchie sowie Klimadynamik und Klimavariabilität, deren Attribution und Kausalität.

Dieses Lehrbuch bietet eine umfassende Einführung in die Dynamik des Wetters. Es vermittelt dem Leser ein grundlegendes Verständnis der komplexen Phänomene und der ihnen zugrunde liegenden Prozesse.
