The role of atmospheric mass changes in tropical cyclones
In the ICON-A atmosphere model, total atmospheric mass is conserved from which follows that neither precipitation or evaporation have dynamic effects. Implementing and using a simplified mass sink / source, I am investigating how important the effect of precipitation and evaporation is on dynamics in moist environments, such as a tropical cyclone.

Response of the Hadley circulation to a changing Walker circulation in an aquaplanet GCM
Understanding the atmospheric dynamics of the tropical Pacific plays a pivotal role determining future climate, yet no theory exists that fundamentally links the Hadley and the Walker circulation responses to each other. As part of a hierarchical model approach, it shows that in an aquaplanet slab ocean setup the top of the atmosphere radiative budget is key in understanding the response of the Hadley circulation to a strengthening of the Walker circulation.
