Jin-Song von Storch elected into the European Academy of Sciences

Jin-Song von Storch, a climate researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology (MPI-M), is a new member of the prestigious European Academy of Sciences (EurASc). Founded in 2003, the organization is an independent association of over 900 scientists and engineers who play a vital role in advancing science and technology in Europe. By electing her as a member, EurASc recognizes von Storch's outstanding scientific achievements in the field of climate research and her contribution to international scientific cooperation.
Jin-Song von Storch is head of the “Climate Energetics” group at the MPI-M and deputy director of Jochem Marotzke's “Climate Variability” department. Her research focuses on fundamental questions about how the climate system works and various aspects of climate variability through the lens of statistical physics. As a professor at the University of Hamburg, she teaches students basic concepts of statistics. She is also committed to promoting equal opportunities for girls and women.
For her excellent research, Jin-Song von Storch received the prestigious Heisenberg Fellowship from the German Research Foundation in 1998, and was appointed Distinguished Guest Professor at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2025. Being accepted into EurASc is further recognition of her outstanding achievements. She will receive her participation certificate at a ceremony during a EurASc symposium in December at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva.
