The Gender Equality Plan of the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology: Equal opportunities for MPI-M employees

The Max Planck Institute for Meteorology (MPI-M) has renewed its Gender Equality Plan (GEP) to further facilitate equal opportunities for all genders and to support compatibility for family life and career. The GEP of MPI-M is an institute specific policy, which responds to guidelines set forth by the Max Planck Society. In it, targets and actions are identified, pooled and coordinated to advance equality of opportunity. The renewed GEP was drafted by the gender equality officers Andrea Schneidereit, Dian Putrasahan and Hongmei Li, with input from the MPI-M extended board of directors, and shall be in force for the period from 2021 to 2023.

In this renewed GEP, the MPI-M documents the current employment situation with regards to gender, and formulates fields of action, objectives and measures advancing equality of opportunity, as well as a better reconciliation of family life and work. In addition to the existing measures, the report foresees an opportunity to strengthen our efforts by becoming more proactive to increase the number of qualified female applicants, particularly for senior positions, and to provide better support new employees, for instance through a buddy programme, which will also help the buddies themselves to develop leadership skills.

The Gender Equality Plan is available to all employees via the MPI-M intranet.
