Lecture series - Corporate strategies and global financing flows
How can we realistically assess the role of business in climate change?
The lecture will present current research contributions from the Cluster of Excellence Climate, Climate Change and Society (CLICCS). The analytical framework is based on a new method for assessing the social plausibility of climate futures, which has been applied several times in the Hamburg Climate Futures Outlook. The perspective on the role of the economy is based, on the one hand, on a precise analysis of the strategies of large companies to adapt to a CO2-regulated future. On the other hand, it involves an assessment of global financing flows and the question of how investments in fossil fuel sectors are developing. The specific Hamburg approach is that of a realistic and sober assessment of whether the economy, and thus society, is moving in the direction of the Paris climate targets at all.
