The importance of global high-resolution climate and weather simulations – ESiWACE

Both scientists from climate and weather science and experts in the field of high performance computing (HPC) are featured in the film.

A new video introduces the EU-funded CoE ESiWACE, the "Centre of Excellence in Simulation of Weather and Climate in Europe" that is coordinated by DKRZ. The film (Duration: 11:38) illustrates the importance of global high-resolution climate and weather simulations and the role that ESiWACE plays in their development. ESiWACE prepares weather and climate models for the use on the upcoming pre-exascale and - once available - exascale supercomputers.

Both scientists from climate and weather science and experts in the field of high performance computing (HPC) are featured in the film. Moreover, the film contains numerous animated visualizations created at DKRZ, making climate change visible and illustrating the precision at which computations in weather and climate simulations are currently being carried out on Europe’s leading supercomputers.
