Visualization is an important method to represent results of climate
simulations and measurements. A variety of methods including 2d-maps, graphs
and scatterplots have been established as a standard in everyday climate
research. However, the manyfold of data (spatial, temporal and multi-variate
data sets) incooperated in current climate and climate impact research
require enhanced visual metaphors (see e.g. the current IPCC report).
Furthermore, interactive visual analysis allows new insights into the large
climate data sets (e.g. multi-run simulation data) and can benefit from
alternative techniques known from visualization literature. Therefore, this
talk adresses both established and alternative visualization techniques and
their application potentials for climate and climate impact research.
