Joint Seminar: High-resolution modeling and spontaneous imbalance

With my talk I would like to initialize discussions on why we need high-resolution modeling and what can we achieve via this activity.  As an example, I will introduce the phenomenon of 'spontaneous imbalance' as a 'new' type of wave motion relevant for mixing.  I will then describe the extent to which the 1/10 degree STORM-OGCM simulates this phenomenon.
