Many areas of data analysis now rely on deploying topological analysis, including tools such as NWC SAF’s RDT (Rapidly Developing Thunderstorm) product. In their most general setting, topological tools are used to detect features from simulation or acquired data, using formal mathematics to deliver hard guarantees of feature validity, usually assuming a single scalar field as the input. Since many simulations generate multiple scalar fields, researchers have recently started developing topological tools and related visualisations for multiple scalar fields. This talk will describe recent work that uses combinations of topological and multi-variate visualisations to understand and analyse the relationships between variables during convecive cloud formation.
