Sea-level rise (SLR) is one of the most consequential aspects of climate change. We will review progress in understanding of mechanisms contributing to SLR made since the 5th assessment report of IPCC, and in projected regional SLR. Particular emphasis will be given to extreme sea-level events that are historically rare, but which are projected to occur at least annually at many coasts by 2050 in all emission scenarios. I will also address the difficulty of constraining the upper limit of projection uncertainty for high-emission scenarios, and highlight the importance of 21st century emissions for post-2100 SLR.
