Joint Seminar: The ‘Virtual Observatory’ visualization and data access facility of GAIA-CLIM (Gap Analysis for Integrated Atmospheric ECV CLImate Monitoring)

Tom Gardiner and myself will present the central outcomes from the "Gap Analysis for Integrated Atmospheric ECV CLImate Monitoring" (http://www.gaia-clim.eu/) project in the seminar presentation, followed by hands-on demonstration of the “Virtual Observatory”, and discussion on the gap analysis and resulting recommendations.

The analysis of gaps in current knowledge and observing capability of Essential Climate Variables (ECVs) is documented in the so-called “Gaps Assessment and Impacts Document” (GAID: www.gaia-clim.eu/sites/www.gaia-clim.eu/files/D6.7_GAIDV4.pdf). However, the full information and details on the individual gap traces are available in an online catalogue of gaps (http://www.gaia-clim.eu/page/gap-reference-list), which you can search as a function of your interests/expertise, with a cross-section search tool.

The recommendations document (http://www.gaia-clim.eu/page/recommendations), finally, is a deliberately short document that enumerates eleven recommendations based on the GAID.

The aim of the GAIA-CLIM project is to improve our ability to use ground-based and sub-orbital observations (non-satellite observations) to characterise satellite observations for a number of atmospheric ECVs.

Your feedback as an important user/stakeholder will be of great value to ensure that the final recommendations will be formulated in the right way to address the needs of the whole community.
