Joint Seminar: neXtSIM: A new Lagrangian sea-ice model

The sea-ice modelling group at the Nansen Center in Bergen has been developing a new dynamical sea-ice model for the past few years. In this talk I will discuss the motivation behind this new development and describe the most important bits of physics going into the new model. I will then outline the results of a few studies undertaken with the new model, demonstrating the skill and usefulness of the new model in addressing the drift, deformation, and diffusion of sea-ice, as well as the representation of leads in the central Arctic and heat fluxes through those.
