In most climate models, after an abrupt increase in radiative forcing the magnitude of the climate feedback parameter decreases with equilibration time. Through the historical period, the magnitude of modeled feedbacks also varies. I will discuss (1) recent work on the role of surface heat flux patterns in changing the global feedback magnitude and (2) how much idealized abrupt forcing simulations can teach us about realistic scenarios.
