Joint Seminar: NICAM: Global cloud-resolving simulations, physics and numerical issues

After the 5-years development of NICAM, the Nonhydrostatic
ICosahedral Atmospheric Model, global cloud-resolving simulations of grid
size interval about 3.5km are now achievable using the Earth Simulator in
Japan. Multiscale tropical convective events such as the Madden-Julian
Oscillation event and tropical cyclogenesis are successful results of the
simulations. In this talk, I introduce current studies and prospects of
NICAM, and discuss some of physical and numerical issues we think to be
improved in near future.
