I am interested in the interaction of precipitating convection with the large-scale environment, and in the role of entrainment in particular. My research interests cover the following tools and phenomena:

  • bridging the gap between general-circulation models and convection-permitting models with radiative-convective equilibrium simulations
  • using moist static energy to diagnose which thermodynamic processes govern the interaction of convection and large-scale environment
  • understand convective organization, in particular which processes cause organization across different surface temperatures and convective parameterizations
  • using a conserved tracer (e.g. moist static energy) to quantify bulk entrainment across different states of convective aggregation
