Since 2019 I am a PhD candidate at the Meteorological Institute of the University of Hamburg and in the International Max Planck Research School on Earth System Modeling. My is work is part of the third project phase of the Hans Ertel Centre for Weather Research founded by the German Weather Service and focuses on the observation of small-scale cold air outflows of convective precipitation cells, so-called cold pools. A central component of the project is the measurement campaign FESSTVaL (Field Experiment on Submesoscale Spatio-Temporal Variability in Lindenberg, fesstval.de) in summer 2020 and 2021, that aims to observe cold pool dynamics on a sub-km scale with the help of a dense near-surface measurement network. The goal is to use these novel observation data for validating high-resolution Large-Eddy simulations and for improving our understanding of cold pool characteristics and their variability.
