Joint Seminar: Global Change Observation Mission (GCOM) 1st Research Announcement: AMSR2 on GCOM-W1 Algorithm, Validation, and Application

GCOM will be a series of JAXA Earth Observation Missions. Together with the

GPM Mission of Japan it contributes to the GEOSS (Global Earth Observation

System of Systems). One main goal of the GCOM-W1 mission is to observe the

water cycle. With this mission, the AMSR follow-on instrument will be put

into space, opening several opportunities for passive microwave

remote-sensing. Relevant parameters that can be retrieved with the ASMR2

radiometer will be:

- Sea ice concentration, type, drift, snow depth

- SST, wind speed

- Water vapor, cloud liquid water, precipitation

In this workshop, remote sensing groups are invited to give a short

presentation on their possible contribution for the above RA and to discuss a

joint application.
