The current push of science funding bodies, publishers and governments towards supporting the concept of FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) scientific data requires scientists to conscientiously cater for research data management during the course of a scientific project and beyond its lifetime. In this overview seminar, concrete examples motivate the helpfulness of research data management for you as the scientist and the scientific community as a whole. Further, data management components and practices needed to satisfy the FAIR data principles as well as the tools available at DKRZ and elsewhere will be discussed without becoming too lost in technical details.
