Joint Seminar: Homogenization of the long-term historical marine observations over the China Seas and analysis of climate variabilities

In this study, we examine and improve historical instrumental data sets from coastal regions in China. Using different sources of observational data, measures of quality control, interpolation, and homogeneization, we construct sets of long-term homogenized surface air temperature (SAT), sea surface temperature (SST) and sea level series in coastal regions of China.

Based on these time series, long-term trend of SAT in Qingdao city from 1899 to 2015 have been explored as well as sea level extremes and their temporal variability at another tide gauge station Lianyg. Moreover, the monthly SST time series from 1960 to 2011 of 29 marine stations in the China Seas have been homogenized; it seems that the uncorrected SST time series appears to underestimates the warming trend in the period from 1960 to 2011.
