Research Interests

My research interests lie in the ocean, specifically how eddies dissipate their energy. Together with my supervisor Nils Brüggemann, I aim to comprehend the processes through which eddies dissipate their energy. Eddies play a crucial role in the general circulation by transporting tracers such as salt, nutrition, and heat. Understanding the energy dissipation processes of eddies is key to understand the bigger picture. I am utilising global eddy-resolving simulations to gain insight into the relative significance of each of the three dissipation sources: 1) Bottom drag 2) Vertical shear 3) Viscosity.  The use of different parameters for the simulations allows me to evaluate the accuracy of the results.
