Postdoctoral Scientist in Social Sciences (W103 | all genders | 50%)

to support and manage the Real-World Experiments and related activities of the Klimapolis Laboratory in the Environmental Modelling Group of the Institute. The Klimapolis Laboratory is a project sponsored and funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The Klimapolis Laboratory is developing a joint Brazilian German transdisciplinary research program that, through sustained dialogues with different stakeholders, environmental literacy and social learning, will contribute to the development of environmentally resilient cities in Brazil. In the current phase, Klimapolis has a special focus on Real-World Experiments to investigate the relation between climate, water and air pollution and societal actors, and will co-design with city officials and other urban actors approaches towards the development of sustained cities and improved governance structures.

Your profile

  • A PhD in Social Science or a related field
  • Experience in working in interdisciplinary projects related to environmentally resilient cities
  • Good communication skills, ability to work autonomously and within a team, and self-responsible
  • Experience with project management will be appreciated
  • Fluency in English and Portuguese as working languages are crucial, as the position de-mands periodical meetings with Brazilian local communities.
  • Knowledge of German is welcome.

Employment conditions

  • The position is offered for 18 months, ending 30.09.2023 (half-time position), with a start-ing date as early as possible.
  • Payment will be in accordance with German public service positions (TVoeD E14), including extensive social security plans. The conditions of employment, including upgrades and du-ration, follow the rules of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Sciences and those of the German civil service.
