Joint Seminar: We walk on water - sea ice research down-under

The Antarctic Climate and Ecosystems Cooperate Research Center (ACE CRC) is one of approx. 70 Australian Government funded CRCs, which are installed to promote focused interdisciplinary research. It is located at the University of Tasmania, Hobart. Work is carried out in close co-opreation with colleagues from Australian Antarctic Division, the Institute for Antarctic and Southern Ocean Studies, and Bureau Of Meteorology.

Within the sea ice physics group we have a strong focus on in-situ research of physical processes of sea ice-atmosphere and sea ice-ocean interaction, as well as remote sensing validation and numerical modeling. We are working closely together with the sea ice ecology group to combine efforts for understanding sea-ice as a habitat and it's role in a changing environment.

This presentation gives an overview of recent and ongoing studies and an outlook on the upcoming field season with a dedicated marine science cruise to the East Antarctic Sea Ice Zone with an extensive sea ice physics and biology program.
